Stroke Research information on stroke Study 1: CREST This trial is designed to compare carotid stenting to carotid surgery for prevention of stroke, heart attack and death. Patients are followed through office visits, labs, ECG’s and telephone calls. This trial is currently enrolling. Study 2: CRESCENDO This trial is designed to demonstrate the efficacy of rimonabant versus placebo for reducing the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, or cardiovascular death in patients with abdominal obesity and increased risk for such cardiovascular events. Study 3: ALIAS This trial is designed to determine whether High-Dose Human Albumin Therapy used for Acute Ischemic Stroke will provide neuroprotection over and above the best standard of care. Study 4: NEST-2 This trial is designed to determine the safety and effectiveness of the treatment of acute stroke with the NeuroThera Laser System within 24 hours from stroke onset. Study 5: ASP This trial is designed to determine whether ancrod (Viprinex) begun intravenously within 6 hours of stroke onset shows statistically significant benefits in reducing incidence of disability at 90 days.
