The Minneapolis Clinic of Neurology provides Rehabilitative Services at our Burnsville, Coon Rapids, Edina, Golden Valley and Maple Grove offices. Our physical and occupational therapists provide a full array of rehabilitation services at each location. Our physical therapists and physical therapists’ assistants are licensed through the Minnesota Board of Physical Therapy and our occupational therapists are licensed through the Minnesota Department of Health, in addition to being registered through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy. All of which require on-going continuing education credits through approved rehabilitation coursework.
In addition to providing general physical therapy services, our therapists have advanced training and experience in the management of lumbar and cervical spine disorders, headaches, vertigo and balance disorders, joint and muscle problems, spasticity, wheelchair fitting and gait difficulties. We are trained in common therapy treatments, such as traditional modalities and general exercise instruction, as well as in advanced, specialized treatment approaches unique to our specialized patient population, such as vestibular rehabilitation, postural restoration, joint mobilization and myofascial release and other advanced manual therapy techniques. We commonly evaluate and treat patients with conditions such as degenerative disc and spine disorders, with or without nerve root entrapment, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, migraine and tension-type headaches, stroke, neuropathy, TMJ disorders and nerve and spinal cord injuries.
Our occupational therapists are able to provide a range of treatment options to promote health and improve function in patients that have a neurological condition impacting a person’s ability to manage daily activities. Daily living activities include basic self-care tasks, household tasks, medication management, money management, shopping, and working. The general treatments include teaching adaptations to technique, environmental modification, or through use of equipment to improve independence and safety with activities of daily living. Additional treatments include energy conservation/work simplification and strengthening/range of motion/coordination activities to increase a person’s ability to tolerate and participate in daily activities. More specialized treatments include spasticity management, hand splinting, visual-perceptual training, and cognitive training. We evaluate and treat any condition that affects a person’s cognitive, physical, or psychological ability to function. Conditions include, however are not limited to Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, stroke, brain injuries, concussions, cognitive impairment and spinal cord injuries.
Our offices are unique in today’s healthcare environment in that our therapists are located in the same office as their neurologist colleagues, which allows for frequent discussions related to patient prognosis, treatments and progression and enables superior rehabilitation outcomes.
