The Midwest Memory Center is a specialty program of the Minneapolis Clinic of Neurology. Our medical professionals specialize in helping you identify, treat and cope with the mental and behavioral changes that accompany disorders of memory loss.

Midwest Memory Center Providers

Midwest Memory Center is under the direction of Jessica O. Heiring, M.D., who has extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of patients with memory loss.  Dr. Heiring also participates in FDA-approved clinical research trials into new treatments for clinical memory disorders.  Tracy Anderson, R.N. works closely with Dr. Heiring in the management of patient care.

Evaluation and Diagnosis

Your evaluation will consist of meeting with our neurologist, and perhaps a registered nurse, who will obtain a complete medical history and perform a comprehensive neurological exam. Information will be obtained from the patient and also from family members.  Observations from family members and friends are very important in making a diagnosis of memory disorder.

Diagnostic testing (if not done recently) may include laboratory studies, CT or MRI scans, EEG and Neuropsychometric tests.  Once lab testing and clinical evaluation have been completed, a follow-up visit with our neurologist will be scheduled to discuss the results.

Treatment and Follow-Up Care

Treatment will consist of medications, behavioral interventions and providing information as to community services available to help with memory loss. Referral to occupational therapy for home safety evaluations and driving assessments will be made as appropriate.

Our neurologist will generally schedule follow-up visits every 6 months for individuals taking memory loss medication(s).

Midwest Memory Center Research

We often participate in clinical research trials and will offer opportunities for patients to participate in these where appropriate.  Click here for Midwest Memory Center’s current clinical research trials.
