Charles Horowitz, MD, participated in the article "Turning the Page:  Top Stories of 2011, Predictions for 2012,"  published in the December 2011 issue of Minnesota Physician

Charles Horowitz, MD, participated in the Minnesota Health Care Roundtable "Treating Chronic Illness:  Exploring Collaborative Approaches."  Objectives of the Roundtable include exploring the history of treating chronic disease and the fundamental problems that lie in the most basic approach to the topic, examining the programs that have been most successful, studying ways cross-platform treatment solutions are developing and discussing how quality of patient care may improve while new collaborative approaches lower costs.  An edited transcript of the conference discussion was published in the July 2010 issue of Minnesota Physician

"Professional Update:  Acute Stroke Management," by Alexander Zubkov, MD, PhD, Medical Director of the Fairview Southdale Hospital Stroke Program, was published in the July 2010 issue of Minnesota Physician.  This article reviews the current treatment of acute stroke.

"Current and Future Treatments for Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis," by Dr. Gary Birnbaum, Director of the Multiple Sclerosis Treatment and Research Center at the Minneapolis Clinic of Neurology, was published in Current Opinion in Drug Discovery & Development, 2010, vol. 13(2):  214-225.  This article reviews the efficacies and potential risks of the therapies currently approved for relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis.

"Myofascial Trigger Points:  What Physicians Should Know About These Neurological Imitators,” by Jack Hubbard, MD, PhD, was published in the May 2010 issue of Minnesota Medicine.

Multiple Sclerosis:  Clinician’s Guide to Diagnosis and Treatment, Oxford University Press, 2009, edited by Dr. Gary Birnbaum, Director of the Multiple Sclerosis Treatment and Research Center at the Minneapolis Clinic of Neurology, is a practical, concise reference of the current opinion on the etiology, diagnosis and treatment of multiple sclerosis.  Multiple Sclerosis:  Clinician’s Guide to Diagnosis and Treatmentwas given a strongly positive review in “Book Review” by B. Mark Keegan, MD, FRCP(C) published in the journal Neurology, 2010, vol. 74.   

"Combining Beta Interferon and Atorvastatin May Increase Disease Activity in Multiple Sclerosis" by Dr. Gary Birnbaum, MS Treatment and Research Center Director, Minneapolis Clinic of Neurology, and Dr. Irfan Altafullah, Minneapolis Clinic of Neurology, was published in the October 28, 2008 journal Neurology. The findings of this important research will further improve the treatment of patients with multiple sclerosis.
