Executive Director
The Minneapolis Clinic of Neurology is one of the largest neurology practices in the nation and is widely known and respected for the expertise of its staff and the superb quality of its care. Due to a retirement, the Minneapolis Clinic of Neurology is seeking a new Executive Director.
In conjunction with the President and the Board of Directors, the Executive Director provides overall leadership, planning, and organization of all aspects of the business activities of the practice to assure accomplishment of its objectives. The Executive Director creates and executes the business plan to advance Clinic programs in a competitive marketplace, while optimizing patient care, financial growth and clinical integration. The Director is responsible and accountable for the operating and financial performance of the Clinic. The Executive Director identifies new service lines and program opportunities that will generate revenue, market share growth and benefit communities that are served. Further the position creates a cohesive practice and patient environment that successfully distinguishes MCN in the marketplace based on quality, services, access and efficiency.
Job responsibilities include the following: 1. Develops, implements and directs operations, strategies, support systems and programs to ensure the continued success and continuity of all outpatient/inpatient services and diagnostic services. Establishes and integrates short- and long-term goals and objectives within the overall MCN strategic plan. Directs all clinical and business activities in accordance with MCN policies and customer service standards. Seeks to enhance operational effectiveness by placing special emphasis on cost containment approaches to the extent possible without jeopardizing quality of care, service or innovation.
2. Participates with each MCN department’s governing group in developing their mission and strategic plans. Recommends, develops, implements and updates strategic short- and long-range plans to support each department’s philosophy and goals. Informs each department’s governing group of current trends and concerns. Apprises groups of activities to facilitate policy or decision making. Identifies opportunities to expand patient volumes by new program development and existing program growth. Determines the viability of new opportunities and implements new plans successfully.
3. Reports regularly to the President and Board of Directors on operational issues and the performance of MCN’s various departments. Conducts weekly meetings with the President to review Clinic operations and other matters. Assists the Board of Directors, medical directors and physicians in evaluating the Clinic’s performance and its staff in terms of patients’ needs and services provided. Attends all Board of Directors meetings in an ex-officio capacity, without vote. Assists the officers in conducting the affairs of MCN by providing staff assistance in the preparation of agendas, minutes and similar activities. Serves as ex-officio of committees, as requested.
4. Secures approval and oversees the practice’s operating policies and procedures. Transmits and interprets policies and directives governing the operation of the Clinic, as adopted by the Board of Directors.
5. Oversees the efforts of medical and administrative staff in the recruitment and retention of neurologists and ancillary physician staff. Participates in the recruitment of high quality neurologists and ancillary staff to complement existing medical staff. Coordinates all physician recruiting activities and interfaces with recruitment resources. Acts as host to visiting physician candidates. Coordinates employee physicians’ contracts. In conjunction with the President, meets with employee physicians on a quarterly basis, or as necessary, to review their practices and implement appropriate corrective actions.
6. Oversees the efforts of administrative staff in the recruitment, development, performance evaluation and retention of all the clinical and business staff, including finance, operations and facilities and human resources. Supervises, mentors and coaches departmental managers/supervisors/leads. Defines staff roles, expectations and goals relative to the strategic business plan. Directs staff activities and evaluates their performance. Delegates authority and responsibility to management team members. Motivates staff and rewards staff for their contributions. Is readily accessible to staff and highly visible throughout the Clinic. Directly observes Clinic operations by being an active participant in day-to-day issues.
7. Oversees the business and financial affairs of the practice including accounting, budgeting, internal controls, pricing, reimbursement, investing and timely reporting. Works closely with the Finance Director to initiate, direct and coordinate services. Employs a system of accountability to ensure responsible fiscal management.
8. Works with Information Technology Director and Electronic Health Record (EHR) Committee to provide efficient and effective information systems solutions.
9. Oversees the fixed assets of the practice including land, buildings, and equipment, vendor relationships, purchasing, maintenance, repair and new projects.
10. Ensures that practice activities comply with all regulatory agencies and bodies governing health care operations, including CMS (Fraud Waste and Abuse, billing and documentation) , DHHS, OSHA, etc. Continually monitors operations, programs and physical properties to assure compliance. Collaborates with consultants and legal counsel to accomplish required results. Keeps abreast of pending legislation. Initiates appropriate changes, as necessary.
11. Establishes and maintains professional relationships with a variety of persons and groups, both inside and outside of MCN. Serves as a liaison and channel of communication between the Board of Directors, departments, committees, supervisors and employees. Encourages Clinic integration with the community by representing the practice to various community constituencies, including principle administrators at major hospital systems. Oversees execution of public relations and marketing programs. Represents the practice in its relationships with other health care organizations, governmental agencies, third party payers, etc.
12. Ensures quality outcomes and services by maximizing patient and staff satisfaction. Oversees the patient and staff satisfaction survey processes. Contributes to results analysis and leads the effort to improve outcomes. Monitors key performance indicators. Directs and supports process improvement initiatives to improve Clinic operations.
13. Maintains relevant professional affiliations and pursues continuing professional development, striving to remain current in the latest health care business trends and developments.
Direct Reports: Director of Finance, Director of Internal Operations, Human Resources Manager, Laboratory/Practice Development Manager, Medical Records Supervisor, Lead Physical Therapists, Lead MRI Technician, IT Systems Analyst, Executive Secretary, and Senior Medical Word Processing Coordinator. Education and Experience: 1. Bachelor’s degree in health care administration, business administration, or other related discipline. Master’s degree in health care management, business administration or related discipline desired.
2. 10+ years of business experience in a single- or multi-specialty group practice environment, of which five to seven years consists of executive-level experience. Prefer experience with physician-owned practice.
3. Experience in working directly with physicians on significant business issues and strategies. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 1. In-depth knowledge in the areas of physician practice management, financial management, contracting, planning and marketing, human resources management, information management, risk management, negotiating, governance and organizational dynamics and business and clinical operations.
2. Strong leadership and negotiating skills with the ability to add recognizable value to each encounter.

Holidays
We offer eight holidays per year for full-time and part-time employees.
Paid Time Off (PTO)
Full-time and part-time employees are eligible for accrued paid time off that may be used for vacation, illness, or any other time they find it necessary to be away from work. Our time off schedule* is as follows:
First year of employment: 10 days/year 2-4 Years: 15 days/year 5-9 Years: 20 days/year 10+ Years: 25 days/year *Pro-rated for part-time employees
Extended Ill Time Off
An extended illness bank accrues at seven days per year. This account can be used when employees are absent for more than three consecutive days due to medical necessity.
Short-Term Disability
In addition to the extended illness bank, we provide disability coverage for full-time employees. The policy takes effect following 30 work days of absence due to illness, up to the 90th calendar day.
Health/Dental Coverage
We offer comprehensive medical and dental coverage through PreferredOne and Delta Dental for full and 3/4 time employees.
Flexible Spending Accounts
This benefit allows employees to have health and dental premiums, as well as medical, dental, and/or dependent care expense dollars, withheld from their paychecks on a pre-tax basis.
Life Insurance
We are proud to provide an employer-paid life insurance benefit equal to 2.5 times of the employee's annualized wages for full-time and 3/4-time employees. We also offer a voluntary life insurance program that allows coverage election for employee, spouse and children.
Retirement Plans
Profit Sharing/Pension Plan: A tax qualified Profit Sharing Plan is the Clinic’s method of setting aside funds for employee retirement. This company-sponsored benefit is supplemented by a Defined Benefit Pension Plan. Employees are eligible after completion of 2 years of service under both retirement plans.
401K/Safe Harbor Profit Sharing: Employees may also set aside a percentage of their annual compensation via pre-tax deduction for this qualified retirement plan. The Clinic as well will set aside 4% of an employee’s monthly income in their profit sharing account. Employees are eligible the first of the month after 60 days of service.
Educational Expense Reimbursement
Full-time and part-time employees are eligible for tuition assistance for courses directly related to their job responsibilities. This enables employees to acquire additional skills and knowledge to enhance personal development and improve their current job performance.

Uniform Allowances
Employees required to wear uniforms will be provided one uniform jacket following date of their hire and one uniform annually thereafter.
